  1. On the Kurt Cobain issue…

First of all, I have this certain taste in music which spans from baroque, to new age, to death metal, to polka, and everything in between. I like songs, not necessarily entire genres. With that out of the way, I never cared much for Nirvana. Say what you will, they’re on the same shelf as The Beatles. Just not my cup of tea.

Anyway, as much blasphemy as I just dispensed in those two sentences, I think that the “protection” of Kurt Cobain is just nonsense. I mean, as much respect as Groll and whatserface have for him… It IS a video game, and they ARE going for a certain market (myself not included) for people who LOVE Nirvana, people who, like Justin, think so very highly of Cobain and his work/influence/whathaveyou, and those people are going to want to spend their money on the game and play AS one of their most cherished heroes of the music world. It wouldn’t be in the best interest of the company to limit Cobain to 2 songs over an agreement dispute vs potentially millions of dollars in sales. Granted many will get the game just because of the music and not necessarily just one small feature. I know I would.

The argument over protecting Cobain’s image in not having a bunch of kids soil the good name of Kurt Cobain by clinking wrong notes in songs by just any other artist is also just silly. He may have been a “great” artist, but he was not above any/everyone else. No one ever was/will be. We are all just human, after all. I could go on about that, but I’m lacking sleep for the past 30 hours or so… I was told to come comment and SO I HAVE.

Last thing about that.. if it IS about not wanting his image tarnished or used so frivolously.. The guy blew his brains out. The ultimate selfish act of suicide. That to me cancels out any respect for a person I may have had, regardless of who they are or what they went through. (I could go on, but my vision is blurring.) Goodnight, guys. Thanks for another great show!

  2. Thank you for your comments! I will move them to the podcast section. I love you perspective on the issue of Kurt Cobain. Keep posting and we’ll keep listening!
