Peelander-Z : P-Tv-Z

I can’t resist a goofy Japanese band that doesn’t take themselves too seriously. When I first heard the 5,6,7,8’s I was in heaven (If you haven’t heard them be sure to check them out…or rent Kill Bill, they were in like every scene of that movie). Peelander-Z brings back that feeling for me.

Peelander-Z is a group that describes themselves as Japanese action comic punk, and honestly that is the best possible description they could have given. Three guys from New York that dress up in three different colors, (Peelander-Yellow, Peelander-Red, and Peelander-Green) put some goofy songs to a punk rock tune, and proceed to rock the house. When is the last time you heard a band do a cover of the children’s song Old McDonnald and go on to be in the Van’s Warped Tour? Or how about a band that turns the “50 states song” into great punk and then tours Bonnaroo? Not too often.

Peelander-Z also puts on one of the best live shows that you can see, combining fun punk rock with an amazing performance and improv comedy frequently involving the audience in their shenanigans. You would have to be getting stung by a swarm of hornets while suffering from a case of the runs to not have good time at one of their shows.

Their latest album P-Tv-Z is no exception to the levels of fun that Peelander puts out. Every song leaves me with a giant grin on my face. From the cover, it seems like it would be a soundtrack to a kids show, I wish it were…I would much like to watch that show. Fun, energetic, punk.

Simply Brilliant.
