Funk/Soul for the Week

Funk/Soul for the Week

I blog a lot about Indie music, partly because I love it so much, but mostly because I think the bands are awesome.  But, my passion is R&B.  I specialize in 70’s/80’s Funk/Soul.  I just love it so much!  So I will try to keep this blog going too.  I will represent a song each for our on air talent.  I will choose a funk jam for Justin, and of course a slow jam for the love of my life KY!  So I hope you guys get down and dirty with my weekly selections!  Unfortunately, I like some deep grooves, and I am at the mercy of youtube.  As a result, I will be limited as to what I can give you!  So you got a week to get your groove or your roll on!

“Ffun”- Con Funk Shun: With the word “Funk” in your name, you gotta be funky!  With many funk bands coming from Philly, Ohio and NYC, it is nice to know that this band is from Southern California!  Their sound is undeniable as you roll with your windows down!  This song is off of their 1978 album, “Secrets,”  where it spent 2 weeks as number 1 on the R&B charts.  If this song sounds familiar, it should.  It was sampled by Rodney O & Joe Cooley for the song “Humps for the BLVD.”  So jump in your G-Ride and crank up some Con Funk Shun!  I can already see Dr. Justin bobbing his head as he’s walking into surgery!

“Making Love in the Rain”- Herb Alpert:  This song is too sexy!  It mixes rain and sex, what a great combo!  With the fall coming up, so rainy season is upon us, so make sure to get outside and make some babies!  This song is off of Alpert’s 1987 album, “Keep Your Eye On Me.”  It features the guest vocals of Janet Jackson & Lisa Keith.  This song is to be played with the lights off, the music up and candles lit!  “Every raindrops makes me think of you!”  this jazz musiciation will get the party started as you get cozy under the fire place!  I hope KY enjoys this, just get your rain boots ready!
