Daft Punk:: Tron: Legacy

Daft Punk

Everybody likes Tron, everyone likes Daft Punk; put them together and it should be magic…right? Well, apparently that is not the case.

Tron: Legacy soundtrack is just that, a soundtrack. Not to say that it isn’t a good score, because it is. It certainly is filled with its fair share of dark-ominous tones, beautiful orchestral highlights, and semi-exciting synths. However, the helmet-wearing, dance-master duo seem to barely make an appearance in the soundtrack, despite the fact that it is marketed as a Daft Punk album. Anyone searching for a Robot Rock or Technologic, be sure to steer clear.

Derezzed is the closest thing to a real Daft Punk song; although spectacular, it is so short lived that I personally couldn’t justify buying the whole album for it. If you are in need of study music, then the soundtrack is perfect; very few distracting moments. This album is filled with disappointing build-ups, where a great song could have been on its way, but then it just ends. Listening to it was like being a woman in bed with Matthew McConaughey, and in the middle he stops and says, “All finished. Welp …see you later.” Where is the robot voice, guys? As Andy Samberg might remind you, “All of the kids love the robot voice” I think the daft ones here were the folks in charge of music on the Tron: Legacy team. Was John Williams on vacation, Disney? Let’s just use him next time, thanks.

My advice, if you are a Daft Punk fan: Just download Derezzed and put your excitement to the side. Tron: Legacy is nothing more than a score for a film.

  1. The TRON: Legacy soundtrack is by far one of the best soundtracks out there. I never tire of re-listening to it. But I have always been a fan of soundtracks, not electronic dance music. The amount of score mixed with electronica is absolutely perfect for this movie – which, by the way, is the job of a soundtrack. In fact, it was the soundtrack that got me interested in seeing the movie. So if you’re a movie fan, please don’t be put off by the above review. It is definitely written from the point of view of someone expecting dance music. This is an absolutely awesome album for those who love soundtracks!
