Artist of the Week- Nate Dogg

If you heard the promo on the ETS Show, you were probably expecting another artist, but with the recent events, I felt apt to name Nate Dogg our Artist of the Week.

Nate Dogg was introduced to the world on Dr. Dreā€™s 1993 release ā€œThe Chronic.ā€Ā  Prior to 1993, no one in the world had heard of him or his crew DPG.Ā  Nate Dogg grew up in Long Beach, Ca and went to school with his childhood friends Snoop Dogg and Warren G.Ā  The formed a rap group named 213, after the area code for the city they grew up.Ā  The group recorded a demo, and it was hat demo that caught the attention of producer Dr. Dre.

Shortly after the release of The Chronic, Nate Dogg was quickly signed to Deathrow Records.Ā  He began his rise to fame by releasing the song ā€œRegulatorsā€ on the Above the Rim Soundtrack, with childhood friend Warren G.Ā  Nate began to be high in demand, especially for many West-Coast rappers.Ā  Many West-Coast rappers put Nate on their songs to give their songs that extra kick it needed.

As Deathrow Records began to crumble, so did the hopes of releasing his debut album.Ā  After the demise of the famed record label, Nate released a double album of songs.Ā  The album was mildly successful, which raised questions as to Nate not being able to hold his own as a solo artist.

Desiring the need to break free from the West Coast stereotype, Nate began to sing on songs for rappers other than West Coast artists.Ā  Nateā€™s voice filled the radio airwaves with him singing the hook of many popular songs.

Nate was also without his share of problems.Ā  In 2002, he was arrested in Arizona for possession of a firearm and narcotics.Ā  He plead guilty and was placed on probation.Ā  Nate has always been known to be a large individual.Ā  In 2007, he suffered a stroke, which temporarily left his left side paralyzed.Ā  One year later, in 2008, Nate suffered a second stroke.Ā  The second stoke required Nate to undergo severe physical rehabilitation.Ā  His singing career was put in jeopardy, and he would obviously never recover.

The details of his recent death are still unclear.Ā  Is has not been confirmed, but reports state that he passed from heart failure due to complication from a stroke.Ā  Good friend Snoop Dogg stated this via his twitter: ā€œI love u buddy luv. U will always b wit me 4ever n a day u put the g n g funk u put the 1 n 213 n u put yo stamp on evrybdy u ever didit witā€

Good friend Warren G has yet to comment on his friendā€™s death

Nate Dogg had a distinct voice and delivered a song like no other.Ā  His tragic death along with the recent events in Japan, show how fragile life is.Ā  RIP Nathaniel Hale.
