Afterlife Parade – Rebirth

Alt-rock act Afterlife Parade has returned with Rebirth, the yang to their previous release’s yin, Death.

The most notable, sonic change between Death and Rebirth is the latter has more of an electronic based vibe than the former.  Also, interestingly enough given the overarching concept of both EPs, Rebirth has more of a darker tinge to it but a lively pulse all the way through.  Conversely, Death was less brooding, but it did have a super melancholy feel at the same time.

ANYWAY, I’m here to talk about Rebirth and simply put, it’s fantastic.  Everything Quinn Erwin and company compose is an invigorating reminder that there are some legitimate songwriters out there  who focus more on the product than the paycheck.  From the slow, hopeful build-up of the aptly titled, album opener, “Phoenix,” to the wandering, “what’s next?” final moments of “Maypole,” Rebirth is as invigorating as its title suggests.

For you introspective types, I highly recommend Rebirth and, quite frankly, Afterlife Parade period.
Although I wouldn’t say their work is soul music in the traditional, genre specific sense, I would say that it is soul-satisfying.  You simply feel better for having experienced their work and, let’s face it, that’s what music is supposed to do as an art form.
