The album has many sides to it: Cee Lo the lover (“Fool For You”; “Please”), Cee Lo the killer (“Bodies”), Cee Lo the soul singer (“Satisfied”; “Old Fashioned”), Cee Lo the pop star (“Fuck You!”). Wherever you look (or listen) on The Lady Killer, you will find Green’s early beginnings in gospel music influencing his R&B and soul musical aspects.
Due to the production teams’ seamless blending of different genres into each other, The Lady Killer has something for everyone (although I don’t suggest playing the lead-off single for your conservative grandmother). The album appeals to the rising neo-soul crowd while implementing pop to appeal to the Top 40 crowd (which it definitely does). Don’t let his small-yet-big frame fool you; Cee Lo Green definitely packs a punch!
