Album Review: Thao with The Get Down Stay Down

If I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again:  I LOVE CHICKS THAT ROCK!  OK, we all know that I love chick singers, so it is no surprise that Thao & The Get Down Stay Down would release what is my favorite album of 2010 thus far.  The album “Know Better Learn Faster” was released in late October and has the stand out song “When We Swam.”  The entire album is filled with catchy Indie-Pop songs that’ll stay in your head for the entire day!

The album was produced by Tucker Martine, who also produced the Decemberists and Sufjan Stevens.  Together they teamed up to record an album with a perfect blend of catchy pop songs.  Thao’s voice carries the album, while the funky style of the Get Down Stay Down keeps you fingers tappin’ and your head bobbing.  Thao & the Get Down Stay Down recently toured in Japan, and Thao toured with recent ETS guest, Cary Brothers, on the recent Hotel Cafe Tour.

“When We Swam” should be the song that leads the list of great summer songs of 2010.  The song features Thao’s catchy lyrics and quirky delivery.  The song’s hook and catchy beat makes this the must have song for your iPod!  The title track “Know Better Learn Faster” features Indie star Andrew Bird on it, what a combo!  There are too many infectious pop songs to keep track of on the album.  Highlights include: Bag of Hammers, Swimming Pools and Chivalry.

As the album played on my iPod, I couldn’t help but feel uplifted.  Thao has a certain way of delivering on all the tracks.  The Get Down Saty Down are as funky as they wanna be!  The album is a perfect blend of Funk, mixed with Indie-Pop. Thao & The Get Down Stay Down will be here in Los Angeles on June 7th at the Bootleg Theater.  This is one act that is a must see and one album, that everyone needs to have.  Click here for up to the minutes info on this amazing singer.
