Hailing from Shawnee, Oklahoma, 25-year-old singer/songwriter Samantha Crain has been bringing her emotion-filled music to life for nearly a decade. Whether she’s demonstrating it with a solemn and bluesy style, or with the heavy and angered grunge, Samantha Crain is certainly putting her own twist to the folk music genre and no matter how she spins it, it sounds great. Crain’s songs seem to contain a mysterious quality that is packed with a raw power that makes listeners explore the depths and complexities of their hearts and yet focus on the simpler aspects of life.
Currently signed to Ramseur records, it was the same record company who noticed the fledgling singer/songwriter touring all over the country attempting to pay off student loans. During a tour in 2007 the label picked her up onto their bill and released her first EP, the Confiscation, which showed the world that this twenty-something girl from Oklahoma had the skills to be amongst some of the labels other burgeoning acts like the Avett Brothers. A couple years later in 2009, Crain recorded her first full-length album with the backing band the Midnight Shivers. Though the group didn’t last, Crain pushed onward and released You (Understood) last year (last week for UK listeners).
Currently on tour supporting their UK release of You (Understood), Samantha Crain is getting the exposure that she most definitely deserves and hopefully the fan-base will grow in numbers. As always, if she’s not in your area you can most definitely get your fix by following the links below. Enjoy!
