This week’s free download comes from Vonnegutt, a rock-rap group off of Big Boi’s label and that was featured in “Follow Us,” one of Big Boi’s tracks from Sir Lucius Left Foot … The Son of Chico Dusty.
Big Boi is set on introducing us to some great up-and-coming artists this year in the form of Janelle Monae and now Rock/Rap quartet, Vonnegutt. Reminiscent of Travie McCoy and Gym Class Heroes, Vonnegutt’s “Bright Eyes” is a great summer jam, so download it now before the summer ends!
The island-esque guitar and quick beat definitely get you moving (sounds a little OutKast-ish, but more tame) and the lyrics reflect what sounds like a pretty fun night. It’s a pretty simple, fun-loving song, especially with lyrics like, “At the hotel it was on from there/I must admit that we made quite the pair/Between the scratches and the pulled hair/See, we were busy playing games and naked truth-or-dare/She handcuffed me to the bed with chains/She took out whips and all them freaky things/Of course she left me for her morning game/And come to think about it, I didn’t even catch her name/I think I’m in love.” The guitar solo during the bridge definitely solidifies this act as keeping rock one of the main aspects, aside from hip-hop.
“Bright Eyes” is a perfect, poppy, light track and a great introduction for Vonnegutt. Self-proclaimed as “your girlfriend’s new favorite band,” Vonnegutt’s hooks will grab hold of the pop lover in you; the catchiness is undeniable!
