Nomoredolls – Another Way of Living

Moody, shadowed rockers Nomoredolls newest release, Another Way of Living, is the sonic embodiment of a night spent sipping Pinot Noir and smoking clove cigarettes while discussing Friedrich Nietzsche.

This Italian foursome takes the atmospheric guitar and bouncy percussion of Interpol and adds in a splash of Mark Lanegan’s grit to create an album that’s best played with the lights out and in the company of one.  Rounded out by lead singer Cecilia, guitarist Max, bassist Marco and Pier on drums and keyboards; Nomoredolls work on Another Way of Living takes a majority of the things I love about music.  Their combining of dark-hued ambiance with the prominent bass lines with the high tones of the guitar have an almost soothing effect despite the up-beat pace.  The “black versus white” dichotomy in the opposing sounds is always pleasing to me.

Tracks of note include the creepy, crawly album opener “The Boxeur,” the strangely danceable title track and the electronically-laced “Red Lines.”  Fans of pre-Kid A Radiohead and the aforementioned acts would do well in giving these cats a listen.
