So Cal four-piece Julie the Band’s recent EP, Wild as the Sky, is a refreshing smoothie of alt-country charm, indie crunch and dramatized pop blended together and served in a pint glass with sugar on the rim at the Santa Monica pier.
In some ways Nathan, Dustin, Jon and Nick have crafted tunes that are completely indicative of California. Assembling a type of journeyman sound that’s been generated from their touring and traveling experiences, the band sonically emulates the path many musicians take to the Golden State in the hopes of making their rock and roll dreams a reality.
Album opener, “Working for the Wind,” is a fantastic reminder to not let the universe completely decide your path, rather looking for your opportunities as often as you let them come your way. Awkward love song “Big Boned” could have been penned for Benny and Joon while “Perfect Match” could well be covered by Jack Johnson in the future.
Cozy up next to your squeeze and give Wild as the Sky a spin. You’ll feel like you’re being serenaded by your best friends in a dive bar.

C’mon, Benny and Joon? Who hasn’t seen that movie? Its debatably the best movie of the early 90’s, and possibly was one of the launching points in Johnny Depp’s career. I suggest you go out and rent it/buy it on DVD immediately Mr. Mike Geraghty.
