Tiger High is a tight-knit group of musicians all born and raised in the music mecca of Memphis, Tennessee. The group is composed of songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Jake Vest (Jack Oblivian, The Trashed Romeos), drummer Greg Roberson (Reigning Sound, Arthur Lee’s Love, The Trashed Romeos, Jack Oblivian, Compulsive Gamblers) and two of Vest’s longtime musical partners, brother Toby Vest and Greg Faison. Together, Tiger High co-writes and records their material at High/Low Recording, a studio owned and operated by band member Toby Vest. The studio serves as the band’s home base of operation as well as the home of their wrecking crew style production team.

Chris McDuffie’s musical career began when he was lured away from his graduate studies to play keyboards and percussion in The Apples in stereo. Despite a propitious beginning, the rigors and temptations of touring took their toll on McDuffie who was abruptly and publically dismissed from the band after blowing a tambourine cue onstage in Albuquerque.

Cast out of the Elephant 6 garden, McDuffie packed up his tambourine and retreated to Chicago where he eventually began work on Hollows and Rounds, his debut album as Whitejacket due April 3rd. While the album’s latest single “Medinah” shows the influence of Their Satanic Majesties Request and Magical Mystery Tour, McDuffie admits, “I fear the chorus may owe a little debt to The Cardigans.

With mantra like drones, shaking bones and sweet candy overtones, Bonfire Nights like to blur the boundaries. Formed by Steve, Ruth and Nicole in 2010, the band split their time between London and their hometown of Brisbane, Australia.

Adopting a minimalist ethos, the band recorded their first self-titled EP on a four-track analogue tape machine. While the approach was modest, the outcome was an eclectic mix, ranging from the menacing “Own Worst Enemy” to the sparse and dreamy fuzz of “Leave Yourself Open.”

Jacksonville, Florida native Rebecca Zapen recently released Nest, a record about building a family (and the ups, downs and lessons along the way) that was literally recorded while Zapen was pregnant with her now two-year-old son.  The record, filled with varied instrumentation and genres where strings and horns (and the ukulele’s South American cousin the Cavaquino) mix with finger-picked folk and cinematic vocal harmonies, was recently named “Florida Album of The Year” by the Florida Times-Union and Zapen’s local performances have since become sold-out, standing-room-only events.

Take My Forever’s first single “The Lawn” is a droning wash of guitars and live — as in not programmed — synthesizers. “I wanted it to be this mass of sound that stays in place all the way through the song. No dynamics, just this wide swirl of textures,” McReynolds says. “It’s got loud distorted guitars, yet it manages to come off as mellow. I’m proud of that because guitars can get old really fast.”
