Jack White releases the video for Sixteen Saltines, which has my musical boner at half mast in anticipation for possibly one of the best albums of the year. Will it be as good as I’m building it up to be, I hope so. Until the release, scheduled for April 24th, we will have to hope that the singles released so far are as good as the album will be.
Songs We Must Have Archive
I guess I have a thing for redheads. First, Florence Welch and now A Fine Frenzy. A fine Frenzy just released a new album, and I wanted to highlight one of the tracks called, “What I Wouldn’t Do.” But like all things, it was problematic because I am at the mercy of youtube! So I decided to hghlight another one of her standout tracks from her first album. I like pretty much any song with a piano, and especially with a sexy chick playing it. What I like about this track is lyrics, it is cleverly written. At first listen, the song means one things, then after a closer listen, it mean another! That’s what I love about music, I love the subjectivity. So I hope that you enjoy A fine Frenzy, if anything else, she is cute to look at!
Okay, Okay, I’ll admit that I am a huge Inara George fan. She is my second favorite artist, but I’ve tried not to highlight her too much in my blogs. So I decided to highlight a band named Idlewild. This song is taken from the 2003 release, “Warnings/Promises.” Inara went on tour with them and as a result, she sang the backing vocals to this track, so listen closely. Enjoy!
Kate Nash is another potty-mouthed Euro like Lily Allen. This single was off her 2007 album, “Made of Bricks.” What I like about this song is how she sings in a hurried way, yet stops in the middle of the track to add her commentary. This song is about a couple who are on the verge of a break up. as it says in the hook, “Our fingertips are holding/Onto the cracks in our foundation/ I know that I should let go, But I can’t.” While the album as a whole is OK, this song really stands way above anything else on the album. This song reached number 2 in the UK, but never really made a dent here in the U.S. Slant ranked this song #17 as the top 25 singles of 2008. Click here for a free download of a remix of “Caroline’s a Victim” and the video for “Foundations!” Enjoy!
If you like the “Chill” music genre, then you’ve probably heard of Natalie Walker. If you like the genre, but aren’t familiar with the artists/songs, then check out this jam! I have an eclectic taste in music, so anything that sounds pleasing to the ear gets added to my collection of hits. This is undoubtedly one of those tracks. This song is featured on Walker’s 2007 release, “Urban Angel.” Walker recently released a new single entitled, “With You.” It is an excellent track!
With the recent discussion of punk music by our very own Dr. J, I decided to feature a classic Dead Kennedys track, “Too Drunk To Fuck.” This is a classic track by a classic punk band. This song was recorded in 1981, but it wasn’t released until 1987 on the compilation album, “Give Me Convenience OR Give Me Death.” This song just makes you wanna jump out your seat, roll your head around and break something! Enjoy the Dead Kennedys, you need to add them to part of your need to have list of punk bands!
Jaymay is a New York based singer-songwriter. The track “Grey or Blue” is the lead off track to her 2007 release Autumn Fallin’. The NY Times at one time called her a big name in the indie universe. While she hasn’t received a high degree of success here in the United States, she has caught on in Europe. The track featured here is a wonderful pop track that’ll stay in your head. It is a catchy track, with some rather interesting lyrics. Click here for a free download of this track. Enjoy!
Esthero is a Canadian Singer with a soulful-jazzy sound. Like her friend, Nelly Furtado, Esthero can go from a pop-sound to a smooth cut like the one being featured here. This song is a B-Side (“Believe it or Not”) from her single O.G. Bitch. This song was released from her 2004 album, We R In Need of A Musical Revolution. She hasn’t released a full-length album since 2004, but she did appear on the song “Street Lights” from Kanye West’s 808s & Heartbreak. So kick back and enjoy the vocal stylings of Esthero! Enjoy the entire Ep by clicking here.
Ingrid Michaelson has just released her third album entitled, “Everybody.” Ingrid is quickly becoming a radio darling, with her energetic live shows and pop sound. I heard this song when Obama was elected President at the House of Blues. Once I heard it, I could wait until she released her latest album, and my wait is finally over! I have been a fan of Ingrid’s for several years now. She has gained some small success with the radio-friendly tune, “The Way I Am.” Ingrid is an excellent live performer (as I’ve seen her twice), especially with her kick ass side-kick Allie Moss. So enjoy ETS Nation! Click Here for her official website, where you can download a song for free!
In an effort to prove once again that we listen to our fans, Kinesus Beats from our facebook posted a comment on our site. I discovered a Brazilian band C.S.S., which is an acronym for Cansei de Ser Sexy, which is Portuguese for “I’m got tired of being sexy.” I really liked what I heard, especially a song called “Let’s Make Love and Listen to Death From Above (Spank Rock Remix“. This song is a remix of their first album,”Cansei de Ser Sexy” released in 2006. I really liked the song because it has a quirky sound and dance-able beats. The band has an eclectic sound and they are very good. The lead singer’s accent does sound very sexy, which adds to the high energy songs that they put out. So follow Kinesus Beats to the land of CSS, and enjoy the ride! As always I provided a link to a free download of the song, just follow the directions and enter the code. Click Here. Enjoy!
